About Us

Daniel Schmidt

Dan has had an interest in art from a young age, and although the mediums have changed over the years, the interest and enjoyment of art have never left him.  He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Media Arts and Animation at the Art Institute of Washington.  He has exhibited his sculptures at Brookside Gardens and the Rockville Arts Place in Maryland.  Dan currently has a career in graphic design and pursues photography for fun.

Jodie Schmidt

Jodie discovered her love of oil painting while earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.  After graduating with honors, she continued studying art on her own and through classes with the artist, Rebecca Pearl.  She has exhibited her artwork at The Artists’ Gallery and in the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center gift shop in Frederick, Maryland.  Jodie continues to paint and exhibits her artwork, as well as accept commissions for people and pet portraits. Jodie also has artwork available for sale at her Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/ArtofSchmidt.

Commissions

To commission a portrait (animal or person), please email me a digital photo of your portrait as an attachment, at jsjschmidt2@gmail.com  and include the preferred size for the portrait, and medium preferred using the contact form below, or you may contact me through my Etsy page, http://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtofSchmidt.  Close up photos of pets/people at eye level are ideal. These should be well lit and free of blurriness.  All portraits are first sketched on Strathmore Sketch paper, then transferred to canvas with charcoal.  After the transfer is complete, the painting is rendered with oil paints on pre-primed canvas.  After I complete the initial drawing, I will email it to you for your critique. An initial 50% retainer is required upon the approval of this sketch, as well as signing Art of Schmidt custom art contract.   Additional progress emails will be sent at each step of the custom art process. Payment will be accepted by credit or debit card via my Etsy site, or in person via personal check. Portraits will not be shipped until these have been cleared or payments have been received.  Full payment is due upon completion of the portrait.  Turnaround time is 6 weeks for each stage of the portrait which include: three- value sketch, color sketch, and oil or pastel painting.
